In some cases, Stripe will require that you provide an image of your photo ID to confirm your identity. We’ll need to capture an image of your government-issued photo ID, such as a Driver's License, State ID, or Passport in your dashboard.
If you are running into issues with uploading your ID, try the following steps:
Check browser compatibility - This option is compatible with recent versions of the following browsers:
-
- Chrome
- Safari
- Microsoft Edge
Be sure to check that your browser application is up to date, as our upload tools may not work properly with older browsers.
Confirm ID Details:
-
- Check that your ID type is supported.
- Please view the How Can I Digitally Verify If My ID Is Expired? article if you have an expired ID.
- Check that the ID uploaded belongs to the individual whose information is being verified. If the information on your ID does not match your Stripe account, you can update your personal information here.
- ID must not be redacted, altered, or damaged.
Problems with accessing your computer's webcam to photograph your ID:
-
- Check that you’ve given Stripe permission to access your webcam -- If you block permissions to your camera, refer to Chrome, Safari, and Edge documentation on allowing Stripe to use your webcam.
- If you do not have a webcam or are running into issues with your webcam, you can use the camera on your mobile phone by selecting “Other Options” in the upper right corner and choosing “Switch to another device”.
- You will be prompted to enter your mobile phone number and Stripe will send a link to your phone to start the process.
Problems with uploading your ID via mobile phone:
-
- If you don’t receive a text message, you can use a QR code instead to access the link. Click on “Other Options” in the top right and select “Barcode Link”. Use your phone’s camera (if QR code detection is supported) or a barcode scanning app of your choice to scan this code and access the link.
Problems with the actual photograph:
-
- Be sure that you’re well-lit from the front, not the back.
- Make sure that your fingers are not covering any parts of the ID.
- If you are using your mobile phone, try laying the ID on a flat contrasting surface in a well-lit room.
Problems with uploading an image file:
-
- To upload an image file, if not prompted directly, select “Other Options” and select upload images.
- The image must be clear, with all edges included
- The image must be in color
- The image must be in .png or .jpg format
- To upload an image file, if not prompted directly, select “Other Options” and select upload images.
